Massachusetts Sets New Standards for Pet Safety: Ollie’s Law Officially Signed to Regulate Dog Daycares

Writer: Jeremy CohenJeremy Cohen

Governor Maura Healey has signed Ollie's Law, a landmark bill aimed at protecting pets in daycares and boarding facilities across Massachusetts. This new legislation sets essential standards to ensure the safety and well-being of animals in these environments, addressing concerns that have gone unregulated for too long. The bill, inspired by the tragic passing of a Labradoodle named Ollie, has been in development for several years, garnering widespread support from pet owners, advocates, and lawmakers committed to creating safer spaces for pets.

I was honored to be present at the signing ceremony alongside Representative Brian Ashe, who led our coalition tirelessly for three years to make this vision a reality. The day was especially meaningful for Ollie’s mom, whose dedication and advocacy helped turn this heartbreaking experience into positive change for other families. While my dog Maisey may have been curious about the ceremonial pen, she was kept at a safe distance as we celebrated this milestone. This law is not just a win for pet safety in Massachusetts; it’s a testament to the power of advocacy and community in honoring Ollie’s memory.

Ollie's Law seeks to ensure a safe environment for dogs by providing oversight and holding daycare facilities accountable for maintaining adequate standards.
